I highly recommend this planer. I researched and this is the best portable planer out there. I had this for a month and I ran about 60 feet rough lumbers and no issues. It has a strong built in fan that you just need to connect the 4inch hose to the planer and a dust bag to collect the wood chips. I saw the setup at Rockler and purchased the bag and hose and just set them up to test the dust collection functionality today and it really works without connecting it to a dust collector or a shop vac. Prior to this setup, I used a shop vac and ran through three 16 gallon dust collection bags. I plan to build a stand for the planer and dust bag later this week.

Love my planner. Simply the best for a small shop. I got it with the table (which takes some time to assemble) but makes life so much easier when space is limited. The planner is very easy to use and very accurate. You can plug in a vac shop directly for dust control. Recommended.

I am an amateur woodworker. I built my first projects using hand planes and a lot of patience. I was afraid that this thing needs a semi pro dust collecting system and I only own a Dewalt shop vac. Well, it does work with it, but it woudl be better with a more powerful dust collector. I spend sometime aligning the extension feeding trays to align well and that minimized the snipe. the finishing is great, I don't have to go into detail, some oaks I have appear almost polished after planing. The most important thing is that this plane (I have not used another one so I cannot tell) does indeed flatten, not to complete flatness, but pretty close to dead flat. You just need to do very shallow passes. Start by a pass as close to the surface as possible, that does not remove any material, then do 1/4 or 1/3 of a full turn of the crank, and you will see that only the most protruding areas of the board will be planed. if you ask the plane to remove 1/32 of an inch or more the plane pushes the board so that indeed it temporarily flattens it and as soon the board emerges from the plane it springs back to the curve it had at the beginning (almost). But many shallow passes efficiently flattens it as if this was a jointer (but not to a complete flatness). And this is without any jigs (flat beds on which you stabilize your board with shims). I am very happy with this upgrade, this takes my hobby to a more serious and efficient level.

I mostly do intersia on the scroll saw and this planar can really get some thin sheets planed down. You have to be careful of grain direction or the sheets will come apart and you'll be picking pieces out of it for hours. All in all, better than my lunchbox and can tune most of the snipe out of it.

What more can I say, best lunch box style planer for the money. Came dialed in and ready to use.
